Apr 9, 2018Melvin L Rempe, 78, of York passed away on March 27, 2018, at York General Hearthstone in York, where he has been residing since July 2016.His life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln. Also, a memorial Mass will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church at York.Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior. A rosary will follow at 7. Viewing will be held one hour prior to Mass on Wednesday.A memorial Mass and burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday in St. Stephen’s Cemetery at Lawrence, near his birthplace.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Catholic Social Services or St. Joseph’s School Tuition Assistance Fund in York. Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior was in charge of arrangements.Melvin Rempe was born May 10, 1939, in Lawrence.Father was ordained a priest for the Lincoln Diocese on May 29, 1965, at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln. Following his ordination, he served at parishes in Hastings and Beatrice. He was on the staff at Lourdes High School in Nebraska City. During this tenure he was administrator of parishes in Peru and Julian.Father Rempe was assigned to David City and was pastor at Cambridge, Arapahoe and Red Cloud. He spent five years at St. Joseph’s in York. During this time, he provided counsel to prisoners at the Nebraska Center for Women. He retired in June 2014 and moved to St. John Vianney Residence in Omaha. He later moved to York General Hearthstone in York.Surviving relatives include his five siblings, Geraldine Rempe Kroening of Derby, Kan., Richard J. Rempe (Caroline) of Superior, Sister Richardine (Luella) Rempe, SSND, of Pico Rivera, Calif., Rosemary Rempe Martin (Dan) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Vernon Rempe (Doris) of Grand Isla...
